Book Review: The Creative Sports: Veterans series (30 titles) offers polished overviews of each Major League Baseball team, and this entry opens with Orioles star Cal Ripken Jr.’s unforgettable game in 1995 when he broke the record for most consecutive MLB games played. The text then rolls back to the team’s 1954 origins and successful technique of investing in Baltimore’s minor leagues, which produced amazing Orioles players like Brooks Robinson; in later years, however, the team fell away from this practice and landed in a prolonged losing streak. Snappy writing caters to readers with a solid grasp of RBIs and batting averages, and the book’s sleek design gives it a mature look. “Extra Innings” pages of team trivia are intermixed with the main text, adding further interest to an excellent sports resource.
